Its a fun one to be around for sure, and they tour across the country. I found them when they came to Watkins Glen (unfortunately they arent stopping there in 2024, but Limerock is one i'm trying to get to next year)

Thank you! Yes, the series really does have a very classic racing feel to it. Great competition, and true sportsmanship among the drivers, even in the rivalries.

Of course: Gopro 11 mounted on the splitter Gopro 10 mounted for pedals Gopro 10 mounted for rear camera GH5 with 25mm lens facing driver for portrait shot GH5 with 17.5mm lens for over the shoulder shot. Same setup in the Watkins Glen doc "Risk vs Reward" also on my channel but without the gopro 11. Everything was hard mounted, all nuts were nylon locknuts or had the bolts drilled for cotter pins. The Gh5 cameras had the mount bolted to the cage, then a security strap around body + cage, and the strap lugs had safety wire threaded through them in case a camera somehow came loose it couldnt go far. The front gopro was bolted directly through the plywood splitter, and next year I will update this with safety wire securing the gopro to the car because in a rear ender it could (though unlikely) break the splitter. Rear gopro was bolted to a handy rear crash bar, but thats the most challenging area to mount. You have to take redundancy seriously with the external gopros as I do not want to be the cause for a debris flag. And the interior cams have triple redundancy in case of a crash.

Exactly! I have felt the same way about most modern racing movies which is why I made this and my previous documentary with Jeremy at Watkins Glen. Making the racing scenes I wish I saw in these films. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I agree that its a mistake to think that "reality" is boring and needs to be injected with excitement. I prefer the hard work of finding the excitement and bringing it to the surface through story. Cheers man, there will be more of these.

900 million people follow F1 worldwide. You can’t categorize all racing flicks from one of the worst of all time. It is incredibly difficult for them to stage realistic racing sequences. That is why “Le Mans” is so venerated by people who actually know what the sport is all about, despite it being a box office disaster.

I think Le Mans really could have been something special if the production didn't stall and Sturges didn't leave. That film had to get wrapped, and wrapped fast, so the storytelling got sacrificed to just get it finished. They also ran into a huge challenge filming that movie in the real race: their "stars", Wyer's Gulf Porsche's, were all out of the race by 2am. It forced them to have to do a lot more staging than they probably hoped. That combined with the lack of script was just a tough situation to turn into a film. I still love Le Mans though, I see it as a kind of tragedy of production. It could have been a one of a kind film. At least we have some glorious actual footage on film from the race. I'm lucky gopros are so much smaller than a 35mm cinema camera haha@@Formaldehydex

@@follow_freeman Could it have been better made for the general audience? Of course. But I don’t know of a single racer, be it professional or amateur, who thinks the film isn’t great just as it is. It captures what racing is really about quite brilliantly despite the shortcomings. As I stated, making a film about racing is incredibly difficult to do. That is true even with GoPros instead of 35mm. Btw I downloaded your video to watch later. The first minute or so seems quite interesting. But I did think it was a bit odd to apparently state the hp of the cars at the rear wheels instead of the crankshaft.

As a filmmaker, I think Le Mans is lacking, as a racing enthusiast (and hopefully future racing driver) I'm grateful it was made. For the HP rating: The reason for that is the main rule of this series is keeping the cars aligned to a power-to-weight ratio of 12.5:1 lbs to HP. The horsepower is measured at the wheels. There is footage later in the film that shows this, cheers!
